Our Vision for the Ottawa Jewish Community

Sixteen years ago, we planted a seed in a quiet Barrhaven neighbourhood and it has grown into an important pillar of Jewish continuity in Ottawa. Founded in 1997 with the inspiration of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, the Ottawa Torah Centre (OTC) continues to share its message of unconditional love and acceptance serving every Jew in the nation’s capital regardless of their background or affiliation.

What started as a group of dedicated Jews organizing outreach and education efforts in a makeshift basement centre in Barrhaven has blossomed into a thriving, multi-faceted organization that provides innovative programs throughout the entire region. We now offer more programs and reach more people every day and have outgrown our current facilities.

We will continue to grow through the upcoming construction of our new facility in Barrhaven, but for this, we need your help!

Engaging and Compelling Programs

At the core of our efforts is a desire to ensure Jewish continuity through increasing Jewish pride, knowledge, and commitment. We strive to revitalize Jewish education and engage young people in discovering more about their culture and their history in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Our programs are effective because they are dynamic and adaptable. By developing learning experiences that are exciting and fun, children develop a profound and personal connection to Judaism. Through our full array of meaningful educational and social programs, adults experience the joy of Jewish life thereby advancing their Jewish journey.

The numbers speak for themselves. OTC programs are highly effective at helping people connect to their Jewish roots.

A Proud Member of Our Community

The OTC serves as a support facility for a variety of activities in the Ottawa region, by offering compelling and meaningful programming, collaborating with a range of organizations that support Jewish life. For example, Soloway JCC has taken advantage of our hospitable attitude by offering programs at the OTC so that they might benefit from our geographic accessibility, resources and experiences in reaching out to the Jewish community.

Our Vision for a New Ottawa Torah Centre

We envision a dynamic community that is responsive to the needs of today’s Jews—a place where the values of diversity and inclusion are reflected in both the social environment and throughout our program offerings.

By expanding our facilities, we can further expand our programs and efforts. We invite you to explore our website to see how your donation can help bring about a bright future for the Jewish community in Ottawa.

Our vision includes creating a place buzzing with the laughter of children, the pursuit of knowledge and the spirit of community.
